1. Objective: The main objective of throwball is to score points by throwing the ball over the net in such a way that the opposing team cannot return it within the prescribed rules.
2. Teams and Players: Throwball is typically played between two teams, each consisting of seven players. However, variations exist, and the number of players may be adjusted based on the level of play or specific competition rules.
3. Court and Setup: The game is played on a rectangular court divided into two equal halves by a net. The dimensions of the court and the height of the net vary based on the level of play. Each team has a front and back row, and players rotate positions after each service.
4. Scoring: Points are scored when a team successfully throws the ball over the net in such a way that the opposing team cannot catch or return it according to the rules. The receiving team earns a point if the serving team commits a fault. The first team to reach a predetermined number of points wins the game.
5. Serve and Play: The game begins with a serve. The serving team must throw the ball over the net to the receiving team, and the play continues with each team alternately throwing the ball back and forth. The ball must be thrown, not hit, and the receiving team has three consecutive attempts to return the ball.
6. Rules and Violations: Various rules govern throwball, including regulations regarding faults, such as double touches, stepping on or over the boundary lines, and illegal serves. Violations result in points being awarded to the opposing team.
